Last month we reported that the Government’s new Immigration Bill included a range of new powers including measures to deal more effectively with businesses offering employment to those here illegally.

On the 17th September the Bill received its first reading in Parliament.

Parts 2 and 3 of Schedule 1 of the Bill propose a number of amendments to the Licensing Act 2003 in relation to premises licences and personal licences, including powers to refuse licences for the "prevention of illegal working in licensed premises" and the Secretary of State being designated as a responsible authority. Other areas covered include Rights of Entry and Appeals.

The whole Bill can be viewed here.

The next stage is the second reading when the general principles of the Bill are debated which is expected to take place on Tuesday 13 October 2015.

If the second reading of the Bill is agreed MPs will then consider a programme motion on the Immigration Bill.

We will keep you updated of any developments.
